Christmas Letter 2017

Christmas Greetings! from the Ministry Team

Merry Christmas Pohutukawa

The signs of Christmas are all about us – in shop displays, parades, appeals for financial support for a multitude of worthy causes, in the blossoming of pohutukawa trees. Such signs will give many people a sense of hope and excitement. At the same time, we are all aware of those for whom this time of year holds little hope - whether because of illness, poverty, violence, disaster, or war.

Christmas is about bringing the light of the noonday sun into the shadowy corners of human community, about promoting the values of peace, hope, joy and love, along with a generous helping of compassion and generosity that are at the heart of our Christian faith.

This parish supports the work of Christian World Service. “Make Hope my Story” is the theme for this year’s Christmas Appeal. The CWS partners, who will benefit from this year’s appeal, are working alongside people who are seeking a way out of poverty or violent situations – in the Philippines, South India, Southwest Uganda, the Pacific, and Lebanon.

As well as supporting the CWS Christmas Appeal, parish leaders invite you to increase your support for Lifewise services in central and west Auckland, which is where our food basket contributions go. If you are able to do so, you are encouraged to contribute one grocery item for each day of December. Suggestions for the kind of items that are most useful can be found in the weekly bulletins.

Please take time to prayerfully consider how you might contribute to making the world a place of hope, peace, joy, and love – whether it’s in your family or in the wider community.

If you are able to include a donation to the CWS Christmas Appeal as part of your Christmas gift giving, please use the envelope included with this letter, and return it at any of the church services in the parish through to the end of January, or mail it direct to Christian World Service. You may also donate online at

As the words of a well-known hymn remind us, “all shall be well in His kingdom of peace, freedom shall flourish and wisdom increase….”.

May you know the blessings of peace, safety, freedom, and wisdom in this Christmas season and always.
